Thoughts

King David prepared everything necessary for the construction of the temple under Solomon's reign. Some of his construction materials include:


1 Chronicles 22:3 He provided a large amount of iron to make nails for the doors of the gateways and for the fittings, and more bronze than could be weighed. 4 He also provided more cedar logs than could be counted, for the Sidonians and Tyrians had brought large numbers of them to David.
5 David said, 'My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the LORD should be of great magnificence and fame and splendor in the sight of all the nations. Therefore I will make preparations for it.' So David made extensive preparations before his death.

It's not like me to spiritualize everything from the Old Testament just to make it applicable in the New Testament, but I do believe there is something about the intentionality of David in the construction of the Temple that is applicable.

Therefore without getting too technical or applying every detail to the metaphore first I notice that David planned with great intention to fortify with strength and beauty the presence of the Lord. How much time do you put into fortifying the presence of the Lord in you? Prayer, Bible reading, Quite time before Him, are these items a part of your day at all? Are these items quality items in your day or just some things among others like another tool in the tool box. (This is not a message where guilt is served as the main course, please keep reading.)

'We are living stones being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood.' How do we get to the intentionality of David? It's not by pulling ourselves up by our boot-straps, for it is NOT written, God helps those who help themselves. What we need to be is intimate with God, which means tell Him who you really are, a struggling, save my leftovers for the Lord type of person that usually doesn't have time in the day to spend with Him, much less the other people I need to invest in. It's not a pretty confession but it's all you can give him. Notice in Peter it's not we who are doing the building anyway, it's God. We are being built. Also back in 1 Chronicles 21 after David's desire to build God a house, God says I will build for you. It wasn't David's work at all, but his heart's desire matched his actions.
