The Roles in life and being content.
To be content in life, embrace the roles where God has placed you. If you can't embrace the roll, get out of it unless there is a covenant to stay.
Example: If you are a cat owner, do a good job cleaning the cat box, feeding it daily, making sure it's groomed, etc. If you can't do this get rid of the cat. It's not fair to the cat and you will feel bad for being incompetent. If you are an employee, do a good job at being on time for every minute you are paid and do the best job you can. It will give you great satisfaction. If you don't, you will not be content. If you are married, be the best spouse you can be and do it for the Lord not for your spouse. God has given you your spouse to see how committed you are to him. With such obedience will come contentment, otherwise life will be miserable. If you are a father become a good father. A Biblically good father, not a friend to your kids (Your kids will have many friends, they don't need another one, but they do need a father.) Don't spare the rod, challenge your children to live holy, worthy lives.
If you look for contentment in the next vacation, or by watching the right television show or movie, going to exciting concerts or getting high, your contentment will only last but a moment, certainly not even the length of the event. BUT if you embrace the roles of life you can find contentment each and every day you live.
Ecclesiasties 10
10 As dead flies give perfume a bad smell,
so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.
2 The heart of the wise inclines to the right,
but the heart of the fool to the left.
3 Even as fools walk along the road,
they lack sense
and show everyone how stupid they are.
